What makes a great website?
To make a great website, you need to fully understand the client you're working for. We spend hours of research to ensure that we were building a client's website as if it were our own. Responsive design is another massively important factor in this digital age - how many times have you looked at a website on your phone and had to close the page because it was too confusing? At Betterweb, the websites we build look beautiful on any device.
What questions might you ask a client when starting a new project?
We always ensure we start with the basics - we get to know the client's target audience, their core values and how they want their visitors to perceive them.
We want to know what makes them different from their competitors and why people should use their business rather than their competitors.
If the client already has a website, we want to know what their 3 top frustrations are with their current site, and what they really hate seeing on websites that they visit.
We also try to make sure that each site we design has a "show-stopper" element - this could be a brilliant high-definition gallery on the home page, or an animation - we ask every client what their show-stopper should be and try to work that into the website.
What do you love most about your job?
I love seeing a website transform from a rough idea on a scrap of paper, flourishing into a beautifully responsive website and knowing that I was a part of that. I really enjoy client interaction and immersing myself into my work, making sure I understand exactly what the client is looking for.
What inspired you to start your own business?
Having grown up and worked in London, the drain of the rat race (and the 1hr+ commute from Medway) drove me to start Betterweb. It means I'm able to help clients and not worry about whether the 07:13 to Cannon Street is cancelled again.
But in all seriousness, I started Betterweb to put my passion into my own work, rather than lining a large corporation's pockets.

The last thing you want when you run a business is to have your web designer calling you every five minutes, so we make sure we work around you. We're also massively competitive in our pricing, for a London-based designer, you don't have the massive London studio prices you find online.
