For my first custom home, I did a ton of research for a qualified designer. The outcome of that research was a shortlist of 3 companies. After sitting down with all three explaining my project in great detail trying to get a sense of their individual strengths and weaknesses my choice was very clear.
Justin Sherry of Huis Design was very knowledgeable, aggressively priced, understood my vision and most importantly he was very easy to work with. Designing a house is a partnership, the success of my design and ultimately the project hinged on Justin taking the vision in my head and put it to paper. As i write this, the walls of my custom bungalow are going up and i couldn't be happier, our vision is now a reality! I have also received very positive comments from trades who have work with drawings. Being able to easily read the drawings makes construction process that much more seamless and stress free.

Do your research, interview your designers, explain your vision. Then ask yourself who you want to work with on a daily basis until completion. I think most of you will come to the same conclusion i ultimately did.

I am a developer in Ontario and I was introduced to Kurtis (Principal at Huis Design) in 2010 while working on a large Town Home development in Mississauga. At the time I had engaged the services of a large well know architectural firm who had made a ton of mistakes. I immediately brought Kurtis on board and we were able to complete a 27 unit Town House project very quickly. I have continued to engage HUIS DESIGN STUDIO on all my projects and as an experienced builder I urge anyone looking for the "BEST IN THE INDUSTRY" to make sure they employ HUIS DESIGN STUDIO"S services. We were looking a designer and building consultant who would take our building concepts, ideas and aspirations and offer ideas outside of the contemporary. We were looking for a modern look that was energy efficient by design and took into account taking advantage of natural light.
Justin provided very close to what we were hoping for on the first concept presentation.
He has also been very flexible and accessible with offering advice and making on the fly changes to specs during our build. When a new building is being attached to an older building, unforseen kinks sometimes occur and on the fly changes become necessary. This can be a huge headache, Justin has been very helpful in facilitating spec changes to code - minimizing our headaches!
