It’s been over a week since my greyhound Bonnie and I met with Monika for some personalised one-on-one training. Since then Bonnie has improved so much and we can’t thank Monika enough. She taught techniques for Bonnie to remain calm and focused on walks which we’re learning day by day how to improve. We came across our biggest challenge over the weekend - 3 bush turkeys and a small fluffy dog walking past all at the same time! Monika was a great trainer who helped us with our 3 year old rescue greyhound. She was incredibly friendly, non judgemental and explained things to us in a way we could easily understand as first time dog owners.
She asked a lot of questions and tailored her approach based on our dog's personality and breed. We got so much out of two hours with her and will definitely be following up with either another private session or participation in her greyhound classes.
It was a genuine joy to have Monika spend time with our dog!

Would highly recommend the behavioural consult. Every minute was a learning experience. It has really helped us understand our puppy`s behaviour and body language. Monika explained things in a way that made sense especially since we are novice dog owners. She was patient and made learning easy and stress free. The training plan provided was comprehensive and covered everything we were taught during the two hour session we had with Monika. It was amazing to see how our puppy responded just within the first 15 minutes of the session. After one day of following the training plan we already have seen positive changes in our puppy`s reactivity and regulation. Behavioural Consultations
Are you struggling with a behavioural issue with your dog? You're not alone! Understanding Canine starts here - a judgement-free, holistic, welfare-first and scientific approach to restoring harmony to your household!
These consultations are ideal for helping a dog through: Separation anxiety, fearful behaviours, aggression and reactivity, mouthing/biting issues, resource guarding, destructive behaviours, jumping up, pulling on leash ect.
Your qualified and experienced dog trainer will observe and analyse your dog's behavioural concerns and develop a training plan to address them.
You will also be provided with instruction on how to implement the training plan and given the skills you need to give you confidence to handle and manage the behaviour.

Puppy Private Lessons
Getting a puppy is an exciting time! But it can also be a stressful and overwhelming time with a lot to learn - Understanding Canine is here to help you start your journey off on the right paw with your new puppy, providing you with the knowledge and skills to set you and your puppy up for lifelong success!
All training is based in a holistic, scientific, positive reinforcement based and welfare first approach! These sessions can cover all aspects of puppy training including basic obedience, establishing foundational life skills, crate training, toilet training, chewing/mouthing, cooperative healthcare, environment management, socialisation - and anything else you want to cover!
These sessions can accompany any puppy school program and be catered to specific aspects of your puppy's learning and socialisation periods.
A puppy home visit session is 1 hour and 30 minutes long and includes a written puppy training plan and resources.
Online Behavioural Consultations
Enjoy a behavioural consult from the comfort of your own home! Address your dog's behavioural concerns or to simply get advice from an experienced professional on dog training and behaviour!
This service includes a 1 hour Zoom consultation and written training plan, with discounted follow up sessions.
