"Our daughter started at Spectrum Tuition (Footscray campus) in the middle of year 7 right at the beginning of the 40 week program. Our aim was to help her prepare for the selective schools exam the following year. While our daughter’s school teachers found her performance to be at the expected level, we realised that she was lacking in motivation as she did not always feel challenged at school. The initial Spectrum assessment uncovered a range of concepts that were not fully understood therefore we decided to proceed with the Spectrum Tutoring not only help our daughter prepare for the exam, but also to help her further improve her school performance. What the tutoring classes have done for our daughter has been incredible and we are so grateful for all that Spectrum has done to make her feel she can achieve her goals in life. Even though Spectrum is approximately a 1 hour drive away (one way) from our home, we felt the program was the right fit for our daughter because the material is very carefully structured and helped our daughter progress successfully through all the relevant topics in preparation for the exam. She was given practice exams only after she had learnt the concepts, which allowed her to apply the knowledge, see weekly improvements, and build up her confidence. The tutors were all very supportive and helped her overcome many of the difficulties that she had. Over the course of one year, our daughter learnt how to write engaging persuasive and narrative essays in 15 minutes, which she could not achieve before. She also learnt how to tackle some very challenging mathematics concepts and reasoning topics that she had never seen before, by learning and practising similar questions using the efficient strategies taught in class. The mock exam at the end and the exam packs produced by Spectrum solidified her understanding of the concepts and gave her a realistic view of what the actual exam would be like. This helped her develop the exam strategies and time management skills to help her feel confident on the actual day.
