Richard helped me understand how to modify my behaviours and routines to transition my dog away from being an ‘unemployed useless boyfriend type’ to being a collaborative companion that respects boundaries. RuPawl isn’t a bad dog by any stretch, but why should he follow any of my instructions, or practice good recall when he literally has always had everything he needs, wants and more without having to work for it? It has only been a few days since our initial assessment, but Richard has provided me with tools and strategies to shift the existing dynamic between Ru and I so that I am the fun mum. In less than a week, Ru now spends more time on his own bed and waits to be invited onto the couch. His recall has improved from actively running from me when I call him (what a fun game) to coming back 70% of the time. I also understand why he barks when he does and how to redirect that behaviour. I was worried that I might get judged for spoiling my dog so much, but Richard helped me understand that setting boundaries is the best way to support my dog to become the best companion he can be. It has been a real privilege to have met Richard and have him help us learn skills and techniques to deal with crazy barking from our gorgeous boy, Jasper, our 15 month old Border Collie. Richard used his extensive experience working with all kinds of dogs to get to know us and quickly hone in on the crux of our barking issues. He has given us multiple techniques - getting him to love scent work and learning to control his barking that are truly invaluable. After recently adopting a 4.5yo GSD girl, we quickly realised we needed some assistance. Cue Richard!! Richard's passion for what he does shone through from the moment we met him. After getting to know us and our new addition, Richard was able to quickly get us on the right track, including getting the kids involved. He delivers a hands on approach, in a down to earth, calm and informative manner. In only a couple of sessions, we have made some solid progress. Richard was great from the first moment my pooch (Colin) and I met him. He got the full background on both of us to help understand what the issues are. My 7 year old staffie got attacked by two other dogs a couple of years ago and this changed him from a dog i used to help train and calm other dogs to being defensive and occasionally unpredictable around other dogs. He listened and managed to nail the root cause within about 10 minutes. Turns out Colin thinks he's Billy 10 men when I'm around. Richard is refreshingly honest and tells it like is. What I really appreciated was his truthful assessment and encouragement and validation that I was doing the right things. He gave some practical suggestions for myself and my partner to work on. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him as his passion and compassion for dogs and their owners is clearly evident. After adopting Koira in August 2020 we soon realised she had a lot of fears and anxiety. We want to provide the best life we can for her and want her to be relaxed and enjoy her life. After reading about Richard I immediately contacted him and booked our first session. He was very professional, knowledgeable and asked a lot of questions to get the whole picture of where we are at. We took the first baby steps with Richards guidance and were set our homework tasks till his next visit in 2 weeks. It was very hands on for us while Richard explained what we needed to do and why.
