casual catering assistant
The International Centre
on a 0 hour contract with The
International Centre. This involves me cleaning work areas and cutlery, working on the
buffet points serving customers, and waiting on tables. It also involves carrying out the
customers' meals, serving tea and coffee, and clearing the customers' tables, etc. It is a very
busy environment, especially when we have big events going on. I'm improving my social
skills further, as I have to speak to many different people when I'm working. It's also helping
me be able to gain more experience working under pressure, and within a busy environment.
For my year 10 work experience I did a two week placement at the Apley Castle Café,
located inside the Princess Royal Hospital. I served food to the customers, and worked on
the tills as a cashier for some of the time. I was also involved with the preparation of the
food, and I helped the hospital chefs prepare the patient's dinners. I found this to be a very
interesting placement, as it got me to socialise with a lot of people, staff and patients. It has
helped me become more confident around people and also helped me improve my
communication and social skills.
Achievements and Experiences:
Sports Leadership Level 3:
In Year 9, I started a Sports Leadership award, which is an award for providing P.E lessons
and sport-themed activities to young children. On one occasion I went to Millbrook primary
school in Leegomery and taught the after school PE club to a group of year 4 students. I also
taught the younger children at Hadley Learning Community. I found this very rewarding to
see young children benefiting from my teaching, and enjoying themselves.
