I am a young parliamentarian from Stafford, in the UK.
I'm 18 years old and currently represent the 878,000 young people in the West Midlands on the UK Youth Parliaments Procedures Group and have done for 2 years (2009-2011). Prior to this I was a Member of Youth Parliament for Stafford (2008-2009).
In my first year as an Member of Youth Parliament I founded a campaign called Bite Back, which aimed to get the Mosquito Device banned. In 2010 I gained the support of the European Youth Forum and the Council of Europe for his efforts. I also met with then Prime Minister Gordon Brown and the Home Secretary Alan Johnson to raise the awareness of the Mosquito Devices' unregulated use against British Young People and Children.
Further to this I went on to meet the creator of the Device, Howard Stapleton and Natascha Engel MP in an attempt to find a middle ground on the devices use.
As an MYP, on the 31st October 2009, I became one of the first ever persons other than elected MP's to speak and debate in the House of Commons. I also took part in the 2010 UK Youth Parliament House of Commons debates.
At the end of my first term as MYP, I decided to stand for the role of the West Midlands Procedures Group Representative (PG) in October 2009. I went on to win this election. As a PG I helped to organise the first ever UK Youth Parliament Annual Sitting in Northern Ireland. I also facilitated the activities of the UK Youth Parliament within the West Midlands. I was re-elected as a PG for the West Midlands in December 2010.
Earlier in 2011 I undertook a number of tasks voluntarily within the UK Youth Parliament which ranged from administrative tasks to office work when the organizations staff force was depleted due to redundancies.
At the moment I am studying Law at the University of Central Lancashire, with ambitions to pursue a career in this field.
Further to my work with the UKYP I enjoyed a short stint with Apple Retail as a Specialist a role I thoroughly enjoyed.
