Vision. Drive. Humor. That probably sounds like a car commercial but that describes me just as much. I am hardworking and in many avenues tend to be myopic in my absolute dedication to finishing whatever task or duty placed before me. Hence the Drive. While being goal oriented is important I do care about the details, whether people or tasks, as well as being a prodigious planner. I am looking for something challenging, as I am a geologist, preferably in mining and geotechnical engineering but I am highly adaptable. Just take a look at my resume for confirmation. The humor is free.

Project: AmCoal Shared Services Exploration: Feasibility Project
Key Performance Tasks: Head Up the Exploration Project, this included the following:
Geological Modelling of Project Area; Resource Classification;
Reserves Calculations; Optimisation of Information Obtained;
Project Calculations; Create Borehole Drill Plan; Investigate Coal Seams
Statistical Analysis of Entire Project Area; Create Borehole Database
Environmental Impact Assessment
Project Goals Achieved: Created a Borehole Drill Plan, Seam Mapping of all Coal Seams found in the Witbank Coalfields in Project Area; Environmental Impact Study
Created Geostatistical models of the CV, Ash Content, Sulphur Percentage, and Thickness of the Coal Seams; Ecological Assessment
Created Database and Data Capturing Techniques for the Project Area
Skills Obtained: Project Management which included Project Planning, Team Leadership and Breakdown of Large Projects to Feasible and Goal Oriented Sections
Financial Calculations of Project: Worked with AmCoal Finance Services to calculate all financials that a new project entails from exploration to completion; learning to optimise financial aspect of parent company and said project to harmonise exploration and assigned and expected financial cost (for example the Borehole Drill Plan had to take into account the cost of drilling and hence it had to be both effective for geological mapping and also financially viable). Financial Forecast of project in lieu of Global Market Projection of Coal.
Mining Technique: Mining Optimisation and mining techniques of new projects including planning of access for mine equipment to new project area. Working with mining and different engineering disciplines to create a Mine Plan and Life of Mine model.
Obtained geostatistical modelling of reserves and resources; dealing with different departments in a mine and coordination between the different departments
Awards: Project Highlighted as "Most Impressive Project" by Mr...

November 2007 - January 2008
Project Title: Lithological Variations of the Colliery and Blasting Techniques
Key Performance Areas: Since New Vaal is an opencast mine that utilises blasting as a primary method for overburden removal, project was to assess the different lithologies on the mine and designate the various lithology types; assess how different lithologies affect blasting.
Project Goals Achieved: Creation of Lithological Variation Map; New Blasting techniques and their effect on overburden. Optimisation strategy of information between blasting services and geological data
Skills Obtained: Greater utilisation of CAD with respect to borehole stratigraphical data; Mine information relay systems and knowledge of how blasting, blasting techniques and blasting patterns are affected by overburden
Student Trainee Geologist

Project: Fines Generation and Assessment
Project Details: Calculation of Loss of Fines due to blasting at the Coal face
Project Goals Achieved: Create Statistics of Fines Lost in Various Periods weekly, monthly, yearly
Create Database of Fines Generation and Loss
Project Expansion: I expended the project beyond the scope given to the following areas: Metallurgy Engineering to track fines from face to processing Plant and beyond, calculated fines loss even after beneficiation at the Plant;
Major areas where fines generation is greatest;
Fines relation to Spontaneous Combustion;
Created new sampling techniques at the Coal Face; created new systems to track fines generation from face to storage including the Plant.
Skills Obtained: Mining Practices
Knowledge of Mine, Health and Safety Act with relation to Hazardous working environments.
Awards: Best Student Geology Project
: Award for Excellence for taking project beyond the scope imagined.

Project: Resource/ Reserve Calculation for the Life of Mine
Project Details: Due to Goedehoop and Bank Colliery merging, as well as both collieries being old the borehole data was inconsistent and in some areas not captured and logged properly the project was designed to assess all borehole related to the merger. Create a statistical data system of the various borehole logs as well as data capturing and analysis of 14000 borehole logs
Project Goals Achieved: Borehole Analysis; Resource and Reserve calculation of both collieries.
Data Capturing of 14000 borehole logs
Data analysis/ Statistical Analysis of borehole Logs
Extra Achievement: Recognised for having increased the Life of Mine by 5years
