Magelegeda - Mine Surveyor - Pretoria, GP, South Africa

Nthomeni Magelegeda

Pretoria, GP, South Africa

Summary

I am a graduate student from the University of Venda. I have completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Mine Surveying. During this period of studies at University I have also completed certificates in GIS and Computer.

Through my studies in both theoretical and practical sections I have learned to use survey
equipment which includes; Dumpy Level, Theodolite, Total Station, RTK, Model Maker,
Surfer Software and ArcGIS. I have learned to survey existing conditions of future site,
including topography, existing buildings and infrastructures using survey equipment such as
Total Station and to stake out reference points and makers that will guide the construction of
new structures such as roads or buildings for subsequent construction. Using these survey equipments I also learned how to verify the location of structures during construction and to
conduct at the end of the construction project to verify that the work authorized was
completed to the specifications set on plans.

I am a person who is always willing to learn and ready to face new challenges that comes my
way. I have learned to work under pressure at University through short noticed projects with
limited time to complete. I also enjoy solving mathematical problems and working in a team
as well as an individual.

Projects

Drilling and Blasting at Syferfontein Dolomite mine

The project was conducted at Syferfontein dolomite open pit mine. The purpose of this project was to evaluate the effectiveness of the drilling and blasting patterns used at this mine. I was involved practically in drilling the blast holes and loading explosives in the holes as well as charging the holes in preparation for blasting.

Mine Pit and Waste volume calculation using RTK

The projects was conducted at folovhodwe abandoned open pit mine. We were using RTK survey instrument to calculate the volume of the entire pit and also the volume of the waste material. The reason for this project was to determine if the amount of waste rock available is enough for reclamation purpose.
