I worked at the US Post Office when I was 16 years old while I was going to UTEP for 2 years. I also worked at El Paso Water Utilities, as a billing clerk. I was a tax clerk at the El Paso County and city tax offices. I have since received a BS in education and a MS as a Curriculum Specialist and have worked in Ysleta Independent School District for 32 years. I am willing to teach again, but I would like to go back to working at a postal store or as a mail clerk to sort out mail.
6th Grade Teacher
Y.I.S.D.-Constance Hulbert Elementary
August 2007 - December 2010
At this school, I was the only Bilingual 6th grade teacher and worked along side of 2 monolingual teachers. I taught all the basic subjects to 18-22 students. I taught math and reading for the state exam given in April of each year. I retired in 2010 after a fall I had a few days before Christmas recess. I retired from my job because I did not want my students to have different substitutes during that crucial time of January til March when I was needing to be out to recupperate. I felt that they needed a steady teacher to continue preparing them for the exam in April.
4th/2nd Grade Teacher
Y.I.S.D.-Mission Valley Elementary
August 1989 - June 2007
A staff of elementary teachers were chosen to convert a middle school to an elementary in the summer of 1989. We actually took out desks, chairs, tables, school supplies, boards, textbooks, etc. out of boxes to set up the school for August when the students were arrived tobe taught. I started there as a 4th grade teacher for about 10 years. I later asked fora grade change to 2nd, and I stayed in second for about 8 years when our principal then, Mrs. O'Neill asked me to move back to 4th grade since we were not doing as well as we could in the writing section of the state test. I stayed in 4th for 4 more years then asked to be moved to another grade level.
English as a Second Language teacher/ 4th grade teacher
Y.I.S.D.-Ysleta Elementary School
November 1985 - May 1989
I was hired to work at Ysleta Elementary in November of 1985 about a month and a half before graduating from UTEP as an E.S.L. teacher(English as a Second Language). This is a teacher who teaches our Bilingual students that do not know how to speak and write English well. This class teaches them to communicate and learn concepts in English. I worked for about 8 months doing this until I was offered a fourth grade position and worked for 3 years. I was then selected to move to a newschool that was being constructed from a middle school to an elementary, Valley View Middle to Mission Valley Elementary.
Ysleta Independent School District @ Ysleta High School
August 1981 - May 1983
I assisted in teaching resource students (those who were having problems attaining or remembering mathematical procedures in solving given problems or in setting up word problems with the equation needed to solve. I also helped them write and edit essays and writings needed for their regular classes. From here I went to school full time to become the teacher myself, since I was doing the job myself.
El Paso City Tax Office
January 1978 - July 1981
I attended customers that came in to pay their current or delinquent taxes. For those who had several years that were delinquent, I would also assess taxes owed and together with customer, I would figure a payment plan that would commit them to pay monthly to get them out of debt for their property.
tax clerk assessor
El Paso County Tax Office
June 1976 - December 1979
I were given a list of properties in El Paso, businesses, stores, offices, banks, that were behind or delinquent in paying property taxes. I needed to assess their debt and make a payment plan that was appropriate for the land owner or user. I usually monitored the payments and sent reminders of payments to the customer either monthly, yearly or however their plan required.
El Paso Water Utilities
August 1975 - May 1976
I was in charge of adding the bill statements charges that were sent in by mail with the checks sent in to pay bills and needed to verify that the statement amount was the same as the checks sent in to pay for the month working on. I needed to be able to use an adding machine by sight to do this billing procedure as quickly and percisely so that our customers were satisfied.
United States Postal Service
January 1973 - December 1974
I worked part time every Monday through Friday from 6:00 p.m.to 10:00 p.m. as a mail clerk. My job consisted of sorting out trays of mail into bins labeled by state that the peice of mail was going to. The El Paso mail was divided into bins labled by postal codes. I also worked the airmail section which was basically the same, but that needed to be done at a much faster pace with a few more details. This is a job I really enjoyed and would definitely go back to doing again given the chance to.
Mission Valley Cheerleaders
I sponsored a group of 10 students to teach them cheers and learn to show spirit, leadership, positive strength and self discipline. They were the group that were admired by parents and our student body because they were so united, fair, helpful, concerned about one another and studious. This was a good project to sponsor because there were both boys and girls participating. These were good years.
El Paso Chamizal Spelling Beel
I coordinated the spelling Bee at Mission Valley for several years. I held students after school for 90 minutes to practice spelling words using the rules that they needed to abide by to succeed in participating. My students did well, in that they lasted 4 to 6 rounds in the contests.
