The placement is to continue work in Professor Tom Wileman's autophagy lab regarding autophagy in the gut.

PhD thesis entitled: "Investigating the effect of dietary interaction with bacterial sensing in the context of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD)", Department of Nutrition, The University of Auckland, New Zealand. Primary Supervisor Professor Lynn Ferguson. The focus of my thesis was investigating the effect of fruit extracts on bacterial sensing pathways associated with IBD. This project specifically focussed on pattern recognition receptors (PRRs, such as TLR4 and TLR2) and how a particular fruit extract can affect the PRR's inflammatory response (which can sometimes be faulty in IBD) through autophagy.
BSc honours dissertation, 2008, Department of Epigenetics, Murdoch Childrens Research Institute. Dissertation entitled: "Investigating locus specific epigenetic variations in placental tissue from twin pregnancies". Primary supervisors Dr. Richard Saffery and Dr. Jeff Craig.
