DID CFP DURING 2006 AND MAIN RESPONSIBILITY IS FOR NEW- AND EXISTING LENDING BUSINESS.

Even before I joined BoE Private Clients I started with the CFP diploma via UOFS to enable me to be tasked with weatlh management activities. My main task was specialist lending, maintaining relationships, do increases of existing clients lending needs, releases of securities.Complex deals from time to time because of the fact that the structure of the lend may be complicated.Trusts, companies, individuals etc. I was also exposed to some wealth management presentations when a need was identified. Lending conditions became very difficult (the credit crunch) and my wish to be tasked with investment activities did not materialize, hence my resignation.

STARTED THE KNYSNA BUSINESS BRANCH

MERGED WITH NEDBANK OCTOBER 2003. RESPONSIBLE FOR A PORTFOLIO OF BUSINESS CLIENTS IN THE KNYSNA AND PLETTENBERG BAY AREA.

I applied for a relationship manager position at BoE Bank and after 4 months commuting to Cape Town was tasked to open a BoE Business Bank branch in Knysna from scratch.A couple of months after the opening of the office, Nedbank took us over and it was renamed Nedbank Business Bank.I did this for 5 years, grew the asset book to about R110 million and liablities to about R140 million. The office made a net profit of plus R5 million per annum when I resigned and was transfered to BoE Private Clients in George.

MOVED FROM CAPE TOWN TO GEORGE AND STARTED A COMPUTER TRAINING SCHOOL (CREATIVE MINDS). SOLD THE BUSINESS LATE 2000.

I bought a franchise, Creative Minds computer training. After a year I realized that I had much more energy and talent to do this for a living and had to move back into the main stream. See detail below.

OPTION BROKING BECAME THE CORE BUSINESS AND THE GROWTH IMPLIES THE OBTAINING OF A BANKING LISENCE IN THE NAME OF PRIMA BANK.

The company consisted of 5 people, myself included, and we were broking financial market instruments to other brokers, banks, insures, pension funds etc.Our costs were low and remuneraton high.
We could operate on our own terms, although within market parameters. There was a "make money" atmosphere which stimulated all of us and volumes became such that we obtained a banking lisence.
I was always going to move back to Cape Town and once our first child was born, we relocated to Cape Town.


GOT TRANSFERED TO CAPE TOWN AND BECAME RESPOSIBLE FOR THE MARKETING OF ALL THE BANK'S PRODUCTS AND SERVICES IN THE WESTERN CAPE.

At this time The SA Reserve Bank tasked us to manage and take over Cape Investment Bank and whilst I was dealing with all my existing clients as before there was a need to market all our products, specially funding because of the fact that we were a very small niche bank.I soon realised that our funding was not correctly structured to avoid a run on the bank and " jumped ship" a few weeks before it was put under curatorship.

I relocated to Johannesburg during this period and found myself in the dealing room where money was bought and sold. This was most stressfull but also very stimulating as I learned to deal with critical situations.I also met people from all the other banks and only people that has worked in the financial markets can really appreciate all that took place.One is often tempted to move to other employers and when I was approached by a well known client I could not refuse.See detail below.

All the branch managers were senior, say 45-55 years old and I was the "new kid on the block".I had to deal with staff problems, credit control, new business and very little support because of the lack of middle management .However I got the branch off to a good start but knew that I had to move on. I had a good relationship with the funding staff and I was contacted by the treasury department at head office in Johannesburg. See detail below.

I was exposed to more management activities and also had to deal with people at least 20 years older than me with much more experience.This was no problem and I had a very rewarding relationship with all 13 branch managers.This position enabled me to obtain enough knowledge how to manage a branch and I was subsequently offered the position of branch manager for a new outlet in Cape Town, as explained below.
