I work with children aged 9 to 12 years who have a statement of special
educational needs. I adapted the curriculum for one boy I worked with to enable him to achieve his full potential, by making things more visual and
breaking tasks down by giving easy, simple to understand instructions.

Special needs LSA
I was working with a child, who has a statement of special educational needs, and who is on the Autistic Spectrum, I worked closely with the SENCO to write and implement his IEP. I adapted the Key Stage 1 curriculum by making both literacy and numeracy more visual. I record his achievements to develop and update his learning targets.
We had a small group of children that we developed a programme to encourage more oral and social interaction, which I ran twice a week;
(Time to Talk) their parents noticed the change at home as they became more confident.

I prepare planning of the session in accordance with the "Curriculum for the Foundation Stage, " which includes, organising the activities with the learning
goals in mind. Making and preparing the materials for the individual tables, and the floor plan layout for the activities.
I am a Key worker for a number of children, some of which have complex
learning difficulties. As the SENCO I access relevant children's needs, and draw up an Individual Education Plan, with this; we then plan activities that
suit that child's learning potential. I also write up observations and detailed assessment on the children on a daily basis.

Working on a one to one basis with the nursery children, we teach Key
Stage 1 curriculum, which was adapted to each child's ability. I worked with a number of children with varying degrees of special needs, including,
Autistic children, Down Syndrome, and Aspergers. Some of the children were wheelchair bound, so I helped with their hygiene routine, and at lunch time I would help them to eat their meals. I also worked with year 5 students with various mental and physical disabilities that were
capable of severe mood swings, i.e. - one minute very loving, and the next a violent outburst brought on by anger and frustration.
