I would like to add some information about my curriculum vitae as, on first glance, it may not seem adequate for the job that I am applying for. However, I consider that my path and extracurricular experience in Portugal allow me to face translation with some confidence.
I have been living in Portugal for thirteen years and since the first day I have merged into its language and culture. I did that always with the passion of the curious and in a totally autodidactic way, just as I have done it in Hongkong, Australia and India, where I had lived before. The different languages, their distinct grammatical particularities and the cultural versatility inspired and finally, at the age of 40, challenged me to run for a translation course at university to accomplish my knowledge with an academic degree.
For the written exam of the Faculty of Social and Humanistic Science in Lisbon I chose a literary text to translate into Portuguese. The examiners stated that I had not made any semantic mistakes and evaluated my translation with 17 values (in a scale of marks from 0-20).
The Faculty of Social and Humanistic Science opened its iron doors and I stepped in not as a foreign student but as a Portuguese one. In the first year I finished 12 courses including the more theoretical ones with an average of 16.7 values.
Although I have not yet graduated, I do not think it totally inappropriate to ask for a test-translation in order to prove my linguistic capacities.
