Smith - Manager - Larnaca, Cyprus

Nicola Smith

Larnaca, Cyprus

With over 15 years’ experience working with prostitutes and victims of human trafficking, I have gained a good grounding in not only International Law but also various national laws providing a good understanding in victims needs from initial introduction/rescue to becoming self-reliant and independent. Running safe houses in dangerous locations and counseling the victims through difficult periods of rehabilitation can be challenging. A good team can make all the difference.

I have numerous years’ experience working with managerial responsibilities. From research, catering and recruitment. leading several teams, over seeing different projects. Reporting back to committees and the CEO written reports and oral presention.

Donations can be brought to the shop and these are then distributed to various charities on the island. Nifty Thrifty has now raised 19,000 Euros since it opened with a Fashion Show fund raising event held every year. Since the economic crises has hit the island food and clothing are the most needed items which are distributed. At present Nifty Thrifty has stored enough equipment for a safe house to be operation in Cyprus. Nifty Thrifty has also helped Freedom dolls gather equipment for a sewing room for the victims of human trafficking.

Freedom Dolls is a charitable organisation set up to help victims of Human Trafficking in Cyprus. Set up to help rehabilitate victims there is no such facility in Cyprus once the women are identified they are taken to a section of the Nicosia prison until they have been proven to be victims. Freedom Dolls helps the women integrate back into society by making dolls which are used as a therapeutic tool as well as a way for the women to earn an income as the Cypriot Government does not allow them to work. The dolls are now sold all over the world.
