Feature Writer, Journalist, Copy Editor, Re-Writer, Copywriter, Scriptwriter, TV Producer...
All-rounded word hound with vast background experience across all media: television, talk radio and print. I have written feature articles for various magazines and other publications, my particular interests of which include travel, lifestyle, holistic trends and wellbeing, psychology, environmental and social issues and the synthesis of spirituality and science. But, like a doctor who needs to have his or her finger on the pulse, I have the ability to undertake virtually any wordsmith assignment, thanks to my extensive writing and editing experience, which spans anything from agoraphobia, animal communication, business, correctional services, gender, sex and relationships, wildlife (celebs included) to over-flowing state mortuaries and xenophobia.
I have been subjected to a few death threats down the timeline and if that counts as brag value then good as there’s no other form of reward for such 'novel' life encounters! What it does hope to illustrate is the extent I often went to while attempting to uproot and expose those unscrupulous types (okay, allegedly-until-proven-guilty unscrupulous types) who were somehow given an entry card to reside upon this space-deficient planet.
Based on my talk radio and TV background and inherent DNA-wired ferret instinct, my interviewing skills are a particular strength, as is my ability to unearth new angles on the topic at hand. I also do voice-overs for television and radio -- commercials and promos -- as well as narrating scripts for TV programmes, corporate audio-visual productions, audio books, e-learning portals, among others.
I have produced innumerable TV documentaries and series (including reality programmes) and provide production services for YouTube, pod/vodcasts, mainly for the business sector by way of 'multi-media mini viral programmes'. This includes 'breaking news' YouTube (or pod-vodcasts) for client websites. I also train clients for interviews in the media.

The New Age newspaper
I was employed at The New Age newspaper (based in Johannesburg, SA) for two years as a content editor/re-writer of news stories, features, opinion pieces, entertainment and all other articles the daily paper carried. Based on my journalism experience (travel, lifestyle and human interest) I also wrote travel pieces for the newspaper on an ad hoc basis. I resigned at the end of August (2012) to move to Cape Town where I am looking to secure a permanent job as a feature writer, content editor or other wordsmith-oriented position.
Freelance and previous full time employment era synopsis:
* Content editing and re-writing (and supplementing storylines) of hefty chunks of text for new authors, which typically resulted in a virtual ghost-write of the book at hand (or, the book which would later be at hand!). This mostly pertained to an author's 'auto'biography. Other genres included fiction (based on actual life stories), adventure, motivational and investment-opportunity oriented books. I would also serve as a mentor as well as providing advice to the respective authors regarding the ins and outs of promoting their book. I also provided editing and writing services for the business sector, NGOs and copy for websites, brochures, reports, among others, these services of which I still offer.
* Media consultancy: Based on my journalistic experience and in television and talk radio (Radio 702 and hosting shows on a Johannesburg-based community station) where my position included determining which topics to tackle each day and the sourcing of relevant guests, not to mention create a balance with input from opposing commentators, I provided clients with media consultancy services. That is, pursuing all avenues to gain editorial exposure, as opposed to 'straight advertising' or advertorial, the reason being that viewers, listeners or readers are more inclined to trust and believe the content (by those being interviewed) by the mere fact that they were given a platform by the media organisation in question (which I would have influenced by sending out a well written press release containing relevant angles to pursue, suggestions about who else to interview to complement the discussion/story, as well as guideline questions for the presenter.
* Television production: I have produced, directed, scripted and (where relevant) narrated innumerable TV programmes, series and documentaries, including in-studio talk shows, current affairs, social and gender issues, election coverage and holistic and spiritual, just to name a few genres.
* Talk radio: I worked for Radio 702 as a news reader and news writer before producing the John Berks talk show for a few years. That included being a 'side-kick' on the early breakfast segment of his show -- ie before the hardline interview segments. I was also instrumental in securing Berks' M-NET TV series, "The John Berks show", and co-produced it while still working for the radio station. I produced John Robbie's talk show for seven months before leaving the station to produce a long TV series for the SABC, a co-production, which I'd conceptualised, called Sex Talk.
