initially gaining experience on all types of Production and Repair engines. My duties included testing all engines to either a full "production pass-off" or running them to Special Test Instructions (sti's) some of which included specific runs to customer requirements. Once I felt I had gained sufficient experience I applied for a Test Supervisors position which I obtained in 1999. This position gave me responsibilities over a complete engine test and crew. The diversity of engine types and engine tests gave me the chance to gain a good range of experience. During this time Rolls-Royce introduced Team Based Working which gave the works personnel a bigger opportunity to become more involved with the "day to day" running and management of the department.
I pride myself on putting myself forward for a variety of extra responsibilities including shop steward duties, First Aider, Driver trainer and team allocator. Within these duties I have used a variety of personal skills liaising with all levels of personnel within Rolls-Royce from my peers to senior management and Rolls-Royce customers, thus showing knowledge of the subjects I was involved in. I have been involved with some serious issues and awkward situations for others around me and have shown compassion and understanding.
During all my time involved with Derby Test I attended a variety of courses and initiatives. I have just taken voluntary severance from Rolls-Royce and am looking forward to a fresh challenge/chapter in my life.
Tester in the Component Rig Test Department
September 1979 - January 1983
on "A" site of Rolls-Royce. This position included working on all sections of Component test, structural, mechanical and spinning rigs. I gained experience of module build on a variety of engines during their development. Also during this time I volunteered for secondments to other areas of Rolls-Royce including Hucknall (which was an outdoor test facility) and C9 experimental build area.
