Work History

Senior Technical Consultant

OpenLink International

April 2007 - August 2013

OpenLink Endur / Findur is the market leader in Energy Trading / Risk Management software. I am currently working as part of the London Technical Services team.
The core code for the System is developed and supported in Long Island NY, but due to the configurable nature of the product each customer usually requires a large degree of customisation requiring a number of OpenLink consultants to be working on their project for a significant period.
The code is primarily Windows based.
I spent time working for the following clients on a mixture of development projects in AVS / JVS and Open Components covering most areas of the Endur / Findur system.
Centrica - 18 months. ( Based at Centrica )
Statoil - 24 months. ( Based at Statoil London / Stavanger and Trondheim )
Edison - 6 months. ( Based at OpenLink London )
Neste - 12 months. ( Based at OpenLink London )
Gazprom - 12 months. ( Based at Gazprom London )
RWE - 3 months. ( Based at RWE Swindon )
Work involved liaison with the business analysts, production of techincal specs and test specs, development of software, testing of software and production of installation instructions. Specific details of the work involved can be found at the start of this document.
I also spent a short time working on projects for Schneider Electric and Calyon.
As a senior experienced developer within my group I was also been involved in training and knowledge transfer. I was frequently called upon to assist less experienced developers with various issues and have also helped to produce an on-line training course and given a number of training courses.

Senior Development Consultant

MoneyLine Telerate / Reuters

July 2002 - August 2006

MIS was a small independent company which had a product that provided cleansing of real time market data. They were acquired by Moneyline Telerate in late 2001. Since the MIS product had no interface to Telerate MTRS and I had previously written an interface for the Logicscope RTE product I was offered a position.
I worked on both Windows and Unix ( Solaris and Red Hat Linux versions of the code).
During the time at Telerate Reuters I wrote a number of key addons / enhancements for the core MIS product in C/C++ and also helped to support the two main customers - Deutsche Bank UK and Tullet Prebon.
I worked on both Windows and Unix ( Solaris and Red Hat Linux versions of the code)
I also wrote a utility in Perl to manage the cluster sizes within the database to ensure that the cleansing software which ran each night would run as quickly as possible.
When Reuters acquired Telerate in 2005 Reuters decided not to keep the product and the whole team was made redundant.
Three of the team including myself stayed on for 9 months in order to support the remaining period of the Tullett Prebon contract.

Development Manager / Special projects engineer

Logicscope Realisations Ltd / Promco Monitor Ltd

January 1990 - July 2002

Logicscope Realisations produced a product called RT-Server which was a black-box product designed to provide a normalising interface between trading platforms.
It consisted of a number of consumer interfaces which read data from a feed / platform, a number of producer interfaces which wrote data to a platform, a normalising messaging layer and a number of APIs.

I was an integral part of the development in C of interfaces to Telerate / Reuters / Bloomberg / ADP Quotron / Cicada / MIPS and others. I also worked on enhancements, bug fixes and refactoring of the core code.

Most of the code was written in C on the SunOs and Solaris platforms. However I was involved in porting the system to HP-UX and to IBM RS6000. I also ported some of the system to Red Hat Linux and Windows.

I also spent several years supporting the system worldwide.
As part of the support process I started writing some complex Solaris csh scripts.
However shell scripting offers limited functionality ( primitive structures and logic handling ) so I looked for an alternative which was free to distribute and easily maintainable. As a result of this I implemented Perl as the de facto standard for scripting associated with the RT-Server product and wrote a large number of Perl scripts which were used for the release and the support of the product.
