Midmar Water Treatment Plant
This plant consist of raw water abstraction pump station, the 280Ml/day water treatment plant and distribution pump stations.

DV Harris Water treatment Plant
This plant receives water from the Midmar dam through pipelines. It's a 100Ml/day Water Treatment plant, and a 30Ml/day Dissolved Air
Flotation (DAF) plant

Ixopo Water Treatment Plant
Gravitational abstraction, this is a 3Ml/day water treatment plant

• Waste Water Treatment Plants
Darvill Waste Water Treatment Plant
Treating waste water for the Msunduzi Municipality, this is a 65Ml/day plant.

Howick Waste Water Treatment Plant
Treating waste water for the Umgungundlovu Municipality, this is a 6.8Ml/day plant.

Ixopo Waste Water Treatment Plant
Treating waste water for the Sisonke District Municipailty, this is a 1Ml/day plant.

A fleet of 90 vehicles including LDVs, tractors, trucks and earth moving equipment

I have a staff complement of 9 mechanical artisans and 3 foremen under the 3 workshops that I manage.

Coil Coating Line Maintenance Engineer

Coil Coating Line 1
This is an aluminium coil annealing and painting line designed to run at maximum speed of 115m/minute with maximum width of 1470mm, gauge 1.6mm and coil length of 380m.

Coil Coating line 2
This is an aluminium coil annealing and coating line designed to run at maximum speed of 200m/minute with maximum width of 1850mm, gauge 1.6mm and coil length of 1 500m.

Coil Slitting line
This is an aluminium can end stock/ multi slitting coil machine designed to run at 1000m/minute.

There were 10 mechanical artisans, 3 roll grinders, 4 electricians and 5 technicians
reported directly to me.

Maintenance Engineer

Chemical Recovery Furnaces & Power Station

This section consist of 2 chemical recovery boilers (one rated at 50 t/h and the other at 70t/h), 1 x 30t/h bark fired boiler, 3 x 6.6MW turbines, surface condensers, water treatment plant, boiler feed pumps, evaporators, compressors. In these plants steam and compressed air generated is used to run the entire mill.

Gas Production Plant

These are 3 gas producers each using coal to produce clean gas and deliver into a gas main at a pressure of 5 - 6 bar. There are also two HFO fired incinerator plants that consume phenol produced from coal. Gas producer furnace temperatures are operated at around 1000 oC and each producer has an annular boiler that feeds into a steam drum rated at 180 bar pressure. Other plant components include combustion air fans, gas booster fans, steam drums, bucket and flight conveyors, vibrating screens, a 5 tonne overhead gantry crane, cooling towers, detarrer and deoiler vessels. In this plant, cold gas in produced for use at the lime kilns and for drying the pulp.

Causticising Plant

This section comprises of two lime kilns (76.2m long and 2.5m in diameter) operated at between 800 - 1200 degrees celcius, vacuum filter drums, vacuum pumps, extraction fans, hot lime conveyors, lime mud conveyors, screw conveyors, bucket elevators, lime crusher, two slakers, causticising tanks and clarifiers, lime storage silos, slurry pumps, water pumps, liquor pumps. In this plant lime mud is converted to re-burnt lime then mixed with green liquor from the recovery boilers to produce white liquor for use in cooking chips at the digester.

Water Works and Sewage Plant

This section comprises of pumps, water screens, water reservoirs, water clarifiers and accelator, filter beds and chemical treatment units for the dosage of water treatment chemicals. Water drawn from the river is cleaned for use as raw water, process and domestic water in the mill and the villages. The sewage plant treats all human waste from the village and the mill. This plant comprises of settling tanks, biological filters, sludge digesters and tertiary settling tanks. Cleans water is then drained into the river whilst the digested sludge ends up as compost.

is extracted from soap skimmings from the evaporation plant. Chemicals used is predominantly 98% sulphuric acid. Other plant components include acid dosing pump, mono pumps, reactor, acid storage tanks, tall oil storage tanks, soap preparation tanks and bunds.

• Wood yard (2003 - 2004)
This section consist of 25t overhead gantry crane, drum debarker, chipper, screw conveyors, belt conveyors, chip screens. In this plant timber is debarked and sliced into chips.

This entailed cost effective and efficient maintenance of assets under my control; developing, implementing, sustaining and optimising best maintenance practices; establishment of engineering and maintenance procedures, standards and enforcement thereof in the sections under my control.
It also includes interaction with suppliers and consultants, both internally and externally, ensuring correct application of current technology in a cost effective way to optimise existing plant and modifications. I also look after analysis and improvement of plant availability and equipment performance. I audit and review equipment conditions to compile renewal plans aimed at keeping equipment running at optimum performance levels.

Budget control
This entails the preparation of annual budgets as well as long and short term cost projections related to annual shut downs, SR&M (Renewals) and CAPEX in order to maintain the conditions of the assets within available budget limits.

This entails ensuring that the section I manage complies in all aspects within the relevant statutory and safety requirements by implementing the necessary control measures and rectifying inadequacies and non-conformances in line with the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
