Various positions in a number of different departments
University of Michigan
June 1993 - November 2009
I began my work with the University as a temp in the Biomedical Communications department, a medical photography unit of the Medical School, as a customer service associate. In that position I solely manned the North Campus office, and produced a Customer Service Training Manual, describing all the different sort of intake jobs and how to process them, i.e. which production area to send them. I was there from 1993 to 1999.
Then, at Lloyd Hall Scholars Programs, I produced all the department course guides, welcome books, ID packages, and managed the scheduling of all the classes offered in the building, including communicating with other departments involved, making sure there were no conflicts in rooms, etc.
At the Museum of Zoology, I was Secretary for the Division of Reptiles and Amphibians, and had to deal with the public, outside agencies, such as the DNR, along with my usual secretarial duties. I did a lot of procurement for one of my curators during research in Madagascar, and converted the division library from card files to an on-line bibliographic data base.
At Cardiovascular Medicine I was data manager for a nation-wide hypertension study, making sure all data entered was accurate or it would ruin the study. I also scanned of original paper documents to PDF format, and maintained the department library.
My last full time position with U of M was with the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science department, where I was secretary to 10 EECS faculty. I produced correspondence, maintained calendars, maintained web sites, did technical typing in LaTeX, a typesetting program for producing mathematical equations and complicated arrays. I also organized, scheduled, and hosted events, maintained the department bulletin boards, maintained office inventory of supplies and coffee.
While at the University I completed several HRD (Human Resource Development) courses in: customer service, IT computer courses, and A-21 courses.
