HIRePS (Hospital Information Resource Planning System) is an Enterprise resource Planning (ERP) package that covers all aspects of operations and management of a Hospital through an integrated approach. It is a product with more than 50 modules. This ERP product helps in automation of all the process related to patient viz., registration, admission, billing, medical records, etc. It also helps the management in maintenance of critical data related to MIS, payroll, etc., The package has been designed to help achieve best clinical outcomes, optimal financial performance and most importantly patient and employee satisfaction. My experience goes into Materials Management System (MMS)
The pharmacy aspect of the MMS consists of 3 pharmacy modules namely Central Pharmacy, Retail Pharmacy and In-patient (IP) pharmacy. Central Pharmacy does the purchasing and stocks the items in order to distribute to retail and in-patient pharmacies inside the hospital as and when required. It also caters to requisitions from other departments within the hospital.

IP Pharmacy is a sub-store from where the items are issued to in-patients upon request from the Ward. Returns of medicines from in-patients are also received here. It is connected to IP Billing so that the patient is charged accordingly as and when he/she is discharged from the hospital.

Retail Pharmacy is also a sub-store where drugs are issued to out patients, corporate employees and also to the hospital staff.

All the above pharmacies are integrated so that stock transfer can take place between any store to any store.
