Battiss - Teacher, Tutor, Mentor - Bristol, England, UK

Nadia Battiss

Bristol, England, UK

Teacher, Tutor, Mentor

I graduated with a degree in Psychology (specialised in Child Development) in 2003 and that is what mainly motivated me to volunteer in a Youth Centre. I studied full-time for three years, as well as working part-time and full-time as a Youth Worker and a Secondary School. In addition, as a Youth Worker, I attended a training course called “Working with Young People” and this taught me about helping and supporting children and young people with learning difficulties and challenging behaviour.

I also worked as a Teaching Assistant in a Primary School where I had the chance to contribute to the pastoral support and be part of a vibrant learning community.
I enjoyed so much working with children and young people that I moved to England and studied a PGCE Teaching Training Course to become a Teacher. I qualified in 2008 and taught in primary and secondary British schools and also worked as a Supply Teacher.

I have always built up an open, positive and supportive relationship with children and young people so they feel they are listened to and promoted a climate in which they would feel safe and secure. I also encouraged them to contribute to the life and work of the school/Youth Centre and exercise their responsibilities as members of a community. This includes opportunities to participate responsibly in decision making, to contribute as leaders and role models, to offer support and service to others and to play an active part in putting the values of the school/Youth Centre community into practice.

In my work experience I also had the chance to teach to a diverse group of students ranging from mixed ability groups to higher achieving students including students with Special Educational Needs such as dyslexia, learning disabilities, or challenging behaviour.
