Trained in Architecture and Construction, I enjoy collaborating with people to work out innovative yet practical solutions that go beyond the Clients' expectations. Not always easy to do, but wonderful to achieve!
Extensive experience working on design and technical information packages for buildings in the residential, healthcare, transport (rail), commercial and community (libraries) sectors. I am also familiar working on historic and listed buildings.
House 2, Cambridge
A rather rare semi-detached Victorian house in a popular road of larger houses overlooking the lake from the rear garden - idyllic!
Whilst the Victorian style appealed to the Client, they desperately needed much more family space!
Aims: Ground floor family room, larger kitchen and rear private entrance. Larger bedroom, reconfigure existing bathroom.
Problems: Planners were concered with the overall size of the development in relation to the original size of the house.
Achieved: Separate private rear courtyard entrance, larger kitchen and spacious family room with vaulted ceilings with glazed windows and doors to maximinise views to the Lake. Ground floor shower room for dirty boots etc and a utility space to make it the fully fledged, hard-working, modern family home!
Worked with the Planners to resolve outstanding issues to achieve compromise on all sides to make the project happen.
House 1, Cambridge
Extension and refurbishment of a rather delicate (but tired) small, detached inner city 2 bedroom house to provide more space for the new purchasers; a young family with 2 children.
Aims: increase space, storage, light and circulation. Larger main bedroom, better family area and social space.
Problems: A rare detached house in an area of terraced houses, so the Planners were very keen to retain the character and detail of the property.
Accomplished: Large master bedroom, 2 bedrooms with amazing views over the College playing fields, a more spacious family bathroom with oodles of natural light. Larger kitchen/dining space at the heart of the house with views over the living room to the garden beyond and a larger entrance hall for those coats, boots and bags!
