Mwaka Owino

Gospel Singer

Afew years after she entered the local music scene, Mwaka Utanje Owino released a debut gospel album in 2004 titled ‘Pamoja Na Wewe’. It contained 12 tracks. Except for “Kikulacho ki Nguoni Mwako” which has a social message warning about insincere friends, the rest of the songs talk about my walk with Jesus and experiences in life," says Mwaka. She has had a passion for singing and music since childhood and her father has been very helpful in teaching her basics such as diction and keeping in tune. Her journey started while in high school at age 15, when she gave her life to Jesus because her childhood dream of being a singer got a new meaning. While in the school Christian Union she teamed up with her friends and together they formed an all girl acapella group called Tidium (Lydia Wangeci, Grace Wairimu Githinji, Katherine Kinuthia, Susan Gichina among others).
In 2009, she released a 14 track, 2nd album titled “Ahsante”….Its thanksgiving to God for all that He has seen me through in the four years of “silence”. It had been a time of reflection and finding new direction. In this project, she has worked with producers NJE of UFUONI records and COMODORE of Stasha Records. She attends PRAISE CHAPEL choir, in Mombasa. She is thankful for her pastor, Reverend Tee Nalo and the choir leaders from whom she learns from & is accountable to.
The following year she released a third album titled “Pendo Gani Hili”..talking about God’s love and his mercy for us a people in this journey called life. It has 12 tracks.
This year, she is out with a new 12 track album titled “Nakungojea Bwana”, It features Collaborations with Ms. Kambua Manundu Mathu & Esther Njambi Mungai. It has a prayer song for the land of Kenya too. It has been produced and mastered by Victor K at Victor K studios in Mombasa.
