a. Pro-active inspections:

• In terms of national inspection plan and performance agreement
• Check availability of statutory documentation such as laws or Summaries of the Act
• Check registers, plans or reports as required by statute.
• Do basic inspection as per integrated checklist and do follow up inspections where required
• Advise employers and employees on rights and obligations in terms of laws and regulations
• Institute relevant legal proceedings in the event of non-compliance including serving of written undertakings, compliance orders, improvement and contravention notices.
• Refer complex matters/cases to the team leader.
• Provide technical support for frontline staff.

b. Re-active inspections:

• Follow up cases referred by registration services
• Conduct relevant inspections and follow up inspections
• Institute legal proceedings in the event of non-compliance.
• Follow through case until completion or if unable to resolve refer case to the team leader, in accordance with Departmental policies and directives.
