Design and Commissioning of Splicing Unit
Backround:High Speed Sanitary Pads Machine stopped every 2 hours for team to manually splice depleted rolls of tape.Machine speed was 450 pads per minute.During speed ramp up and ramp down machine generated waste.I had the desire to eliminate this downtime and waste.I made a proposal to the operations manager.
I was granted permission to desing the splice unit at work.Made detailed drawings at home.Sourced an engineering shop that would fabricate the parts at the best price(no middle people).Assembled the various components.Made the necessary modifications to the machine frame.Planned installation and validation.Organised and prepared installation team.Secured installation and validation days.Installation done over weekend.Finnishing touches Monday morning.Validation Monday,Tuesday.
Results declared excellent.Tape spliced without stopping machine.Splice success rate:90%+.
