PLC BASED AUTOMATION OF TRANSFORMER COOLING
TCC , a major caustic soda manufacturing unit is one of the largest consumers of electricity.The TCC ltd is a public limited company and the main process involved here is electrolysis. The infrastructure consists of three major plants AGC plant, UDHE-1 and UDHE-2. All the three plants consists of rectifier transformers. The rectifiers perform the major purpose of conversion of AC into DC.
The operation of the transformer involves heat production which has to be absorbed continuously. The project discussed hence forth involves the complete automation of the heat transfer to water acting as coolant. Water flows in water pipes, the flow of which is controlled by water pumps and valves etc. The parameters such as temperature, pressure, conductivity and flow rate of the DM water and cooling water of the thyristor (rectifier) plant installed in TCC are monitored. The project involves the investigation of various working conditions in the plants and the automation of the entire cooling mechanism of AGC plant (cooling of transformers, rectifiers and cooling tower ) using PLC.
PLC used to monitor the parameters is the ALLEN BRADLEY Rockwell software.PLC stands for programmable logic controller. In automated system , PLC can be considered as part of control system. It is a device which initiates certain response according to the input data provided to it. Program logic stored within PLC determines cause of action to be performed. Micrologix 500 is the software used to create ladder logic.
