Work History

The Actors' Studio

An improbably love story between a Latino truck driver of 29 and a left-wing activist of 54, set in Los Angeles in the first years of the Iraq War. Darrell Larsen directed a reading at The Actors' Studio, NYC, 2011. Called 'a modern 'The Way We Were' by director, Craig Belknap, the style is naturalistic.

BODY WITHOUT BONES ~ 4 aspects of an elderly woman: Mother One, Mother Two, Child Mother and Male Mother ~ are the focus of this riotous black comedy on the theme of plastic surgery and Body Image. Stylized movement, text and '40s Swing and British Music Hall music ( 6 songs only) . The central metaphor is a rag doll ~ featureless, naked, hairless. All actors are dressed in identical muslin sacks, no 'clothes', only painted-on eyelashes and red bow lips.

CRONES ~ Two 60-year old New York women ~ a divorced (Wasp) poet whose fortune has been lost in the crash of 2008, and a successful psycho-therapist (Jewish) with breast cancer ~ attempt to lend support to each other as they look at aging and illness in America.

Inspired by the poetic laments of an Chinese girl who was captured by Mongol invaders in the year 195 and lived among them for 12 years before being rescued by a ransom party. 10 singing-actors (both options require 4 musicians). Highly stylized and formal. Chinese Opera elements.

A staged reading with music was presented at The Japanese American National Museum Special Events Series. It featured Jennifer Paz, star of Miss Saigon, in the title role. June Angela, star of Broadway's Shogun, shared the leading role with her on the music demo.
