Mike Mitchell makes his home in Floyd, Virginia where he is founder and director of The Floyd Music School. He is a founding and current member of Roanoke, VA Newgrass band, Blue Moonshine and also offers a solo singer/songwriter/fiddler performance that is well received across Virginia.
Recently partnering with David Oakes and Tom Klinglehoffer, Mike's jazz trio has been invited to perform for Virginia's Blue Ridge Music Festival, Wineries along the Blue Ridge Parkway, and the Martinsville chamber association. This fine trio plans to record an album in the winter of 2015.
As a teacher, Mike has been invited to present workshops at Virginia university strings programs, is the fiddle and old-time banjo instructor at New River Community College and maintains active studios in Floyd, and Blacksburg Virginia.
His 2008 release "Thirteen Hours" included the Bluegrass top 40 title track of the same name. His 2011 release "Dead Center" was very well reviewed by all bluegrass print media, is played widely on International Bluegrass radio, and offered through Rebel Records and County Sales. Mike also arranged and recorded "Classics on Conners", a full-length classical recording using all Arthur Conner stringed instruments, mdd in his home county of Floyd VA. "Gospel on Conners" is in the works for 2015...
