Michelle Rios - Bio
A Broadway veteran, teacher, writer, director, and facilitator, Michelle Rios has performed in countless theatrical, operatic, & concert venues. A Metropolitan Opera Mid-Atlantic Semi-Finalist, her many credits include featured roles in the Tony-Award nominated Broadway productions of Paul Simon's "The Capeman", "The Sound of Music”, "Man of La Mancha", and the Tony Award winning Best Musical “In the Heights”. Ms. Rios has also appeared in episodes of “Law and Order”, “Third Watch”, “One Life to Live”, “Guiding Light”, and numerous films. While in New York, she also served as Site Director, teaching artist, and scriptwriter for ENACT, an organization which integrates theatre as a means of conflict resolution and awareness for inner city students.
Ms. Rios became the first Studio Manager for the iHuman Youth Society in Edmonton, and possesses an MFA in Theatre Practice from the University of Alberta. She hopes to implement popular theatre techniques as a means of activism, education, community engagement, and awareness with and for marginalized populations.
Ms. Rios appears in the supporting role of 'Flora' alongside Academy Award Nominee Ed Harris in the upcoming feature film “Frontera”. The film, which explores current immigrant reform between the U.S. and Mexico, also stars Amy Madigan, Eva Longoria, and Michael Pena. The film will have its U.S. and international release in 2014.
