Lead Independent Mental Health Advocate

I work with clients who have been detained under the Mental Health Act (2007). This role is to inform them of their rights and to help them exercise them if they want to. I attend Mental Health Tribunals and Hospital Managers Meetings on request of the client.

Many clients have multiple issues and require help in areas such as debt, housing, employment and benefits. I have developed strong verbal and written skills in communicating with health care professionals, clients and other professional bodies on a daily basis within my work as an advocate. I work to engage clients on a deep and meaningful level which I have experienced to have a positive effect upon their lives.
Also within this role I supervise three other advocates offering monthly supervision. I also work with volunteers and liaise with the volunteer coordinator to organise training.
