January 2013 - December 2013

Period: January 2013 to December 2013
Ref tel: +27 43 736 9850
Acting Medical Officer: Dr. Cindi

Key competencies with regards to job description:
I worked at a MDR/XDR TB hospital during my Community service year. My responsibilities included conducting initial assessment of patients with co-morbidities and extensive lung disease as well as developing treatment programmes for individual patients. It was also my responsibility to assist patients with expectoration for monitoring of culture conversion. Due to the chronic nature of Drug-resistant TB, community re-integration plays an integral role in rehabilitation, allowing me to take a holistic approach to my treatment. I was also responsible for ordering and issuing of assistive devices.
As I am the first physiotherapist at Fort Grey, I have had the privilege in setting up the physiotherapy department and being responsible for all the administration involved with running an efficient department. This has exposed me to immediate interactions with the senior management of the hospital, allowing for a greater understanding of the inner working of a hospital.
Furthermore, I have involved myself in the Employee Wellness Committee and I have organised several events throughout the year, ranging from informative sessions to exercise classes.

Sports Masseuse

Cape Epic Cycle Tour

From April 2012

Ref Tel: +27 21 938 9037
Co-ordinator: Dr. Unger

Key competencies with regards to job description:
My job as a sports masseuse required of me to attend to cyclists after completion of the day's race as well as readily give advice, specifically on posture, stretches and exercises, on specific injuries that may occurred prior to the event or during the day's race. It was also my responsibility to know the depth and the type of massage which is required to ensure the cyclists perform optimally the next day. The cycle tour lasted seven days, in which the cyclists had to complete a 900km mountain biking race. Due to the intensity of the race, it was of vital importance that the correct advice and massage was given to the cyclists.
