Michael Tanner Cusumano, a young movie director and producer from Burbank, California, started his cinematic career when he was just 12 years old. Over the course of five consecutive summer sessions at NYFA, Michael Tanner Cusumano honed his skills as a director, editor, cinematographer, assistant director, and producer and contributed to the making of such short films as "Composure," "The Illegal Way," "Alisha," "Able," and "Mother’s Day."

The 17-year-old attends Sierra Canyon School in addition to operating Tanner Films, his own film production company. Michael Tanner Cusumano is currently attending the summer film program at the University of Southern California’s School of Cinematic Arts, where he studies hands-on techniques of editing.

Since embarking on his filmmaking career, Michael Tanner Cusumano has directed one film and acted as the director and producer on three others. He directed "Missing" in 2008, followed by "Sage," which he also wrote and produced, in 2009. "Sage" was named Best Film Noir at the 2010 Burbank International Film Festival (BIFF), winning out over more than 160 films. Shot on location onboard the Queen Mary ship in Long Beach, California, "Sage" is a thriller that follows three friends vacationing on an ancient cruise ship. In 2010, Michael Tanner Cusumano directed and produced "Amanda," a film dealing with the physical and emotional consequences of underage drinking and driving. "Amanda" was an Official Selection at national and international film festivals and garnered 11 awards, including the Golden Palm Award at both the Seattle True Independent Film Festival and the Mexico International Film Festival. Michael Tanner Cusumano's most recent film is "Impetuous," a Tanner Films production. Its release is scheduled for the summer of 2011.
