Michael Rathbun Syracuse worked in the Syracuse Police Department for over 20 years. He worked in community relations as well as in the Onondaga County Crime Laboratory.

Michael was awarded several nominations for his service over the years and also completed the prestigious FBI Academy in 1999.

Michael Rathbun Syracuse was in charge of the Community Relations Division and also worked in patrol. Michael Rathbun’s role included recruiting the School Resource officers which are the detectives that work at the city schools. Michael Rathbun also headed up the Crime Prevention division, the Youth Division, and Missing Persons division.

He was also a child counselor and an officer in the Syracuse University Department of Public Safety. His years of service have been recognized several times, including the Martin Luther King Jr. Regional Award and the Abraham Walton Award.

Michael worked for the SPD for 20 years before retiring as a Captain in 2006.

Before becoming a police officer, Michael was a child counselor. His formal education came from St. John Fisher College where he obtained his degree in English. He followed up his undergraduate studies with a Master's degree in Public Administration from Marist College.
