This bridge will provide safe access to scholars over the Umkhomazi river and create development potential for opening up agricultural areas and access to schools, clinics and housing. The project works comprised of constructing a 80m steel bridge with "Vastrap" plates supported on steel channel sections and four support towers of steel columns supported on concrete plinths. The support towers are founded on spread footings and the anchor blocks are concrete boxes which are backfilled. The deck is supported by vertical and diagonal hangers which are suspended from the draped cables. The cables are supported by the bridge towers which are anchored by the anchor blocks.
