I am an experienced and qualified horticulturalist. I have spent the last 3 years as Head Gardener to a luxury hotel in Worcestershire set in a Queen Anne Mansion. I served an apprenticeship in the private gardens of Forthampton Court. Since then I have worked mostly around the Gloucestershire Cotswolds, practicing what I had learned and acquiring new skills and new techniques.
The Elms Hotel and Spa
In the 10 acres of gardens at the hotel, my team and I are responsible for maintaining amenity lawns and sports turf, a traditional rose garden with plants up to 60 years old, various herbaceous and mixed borders, a productive kitchen garden demonstrating traditional and modern crops and techniques, performing basic repairs and maintenance to garden machinery and tools, and the general upkeep of the hotel grounds.
During my time as the Head gardener at the Elms I have played a part in instigating major changes to the hotel and its gardens and grounds during its transition from a traditional country house hotel into a luxury, family oriented, hotel. By making use of and propagating existing plants, with my team I have renovated the traditional herbaceous and mixed borders and established several new ones. We have also established an organic kitchen garden and I have designed and created a herb garden with an eclectic mix of over 60 different herbs to supply the 2 AA rosette kitchens. We have also created a nature trail with various artificial habitats and a very popular childrens play area among the trees.
My extra duties include organising activities for the children, teaching basic techniques to groups of local gardening enthusiasts and giving talks and show rounds to local horticultural societies.
Gardener, Washbourne Court Hotel & Lower Slaughter Manor Hotel
My duties here included assisting in the large scale planting of annual bedding, Maintenance of herbaceous borders and shrubberies, maintaining a small rose garden, maintaining and repairing machinery and tools, mowing amenity lawns and the general upkeep of the grounds of both hotels and the public areas of the traditional Cotswold village of Lower Slaughter.
specialist consultant particularly

In addition to various private gardening contracts, I worked for established local companies Dig It Garden Design ltd. and Harvey Wild Landscapes, in various capacities, from a general assistant to a site manager at various locations throughout the cotswolds. I would also be called in as a specialist consultant particularly on projects relating to tree planting and woodland management.
Forrester Tree Surgery
As the tree surgeons assistant I was responsible for general ground work including clearing and chipping branches and brash, site clearing and tidying, rope work, maintaining equipment, road traffic management, cross cutting wood and the felling of small trees. Use was also made of my experience in hedge cutting and tree pruning techniques.
Nurseryman, J & J Nurseries
I was responsible for pruning the entire stock of approx. 300,000 semi mature trees during the summer and assisting with the lifting and preparing of large root-balled trees for transport. During my time there we sent out a large order of lyme trees for the commonwealth games and a very large, 40 year old, disease resistant elm tree for a Help The Aged show garden at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, which went on to win 'Best in show'.
Under Gardener, Forthampton Court Estate; Glos.
My first gainful employment was as the assistant to Gardener Les Fenech. Together we maintained a large 15 acre garden including a 2 acre victorian walled kitchen garden, a croquet garden, a traditional walled rose garden, an herbaceous border, a large shrubbery and a large formal lawn.
