Melanie Kilby Graphic Design and Illustration

I've managed to maintain my freedom for quite some time now, working for clients such as Flight Centre, Thiess and some of Brisbane's advertising and design studios as well as some smaller clients I've collected along the way.

I currently have a total of 11 years experience in the print design industry.

Projects

Editorial Illustration

An on going gig, I am commissioned to illustrate the editorial spread for Corporate Traveller's monthly Publication 'Intouch'. Corporate Traveller is a subsidiary of Flight Centre. I enjoy the challenge of bringing the somewhat dry subject matter to life.

Character portraits in oil paint

This is a Self Portrait in oils painted with my face painted in Mexican Day of the Dead sugar skull imagery. The overall structure of my face was referenced from a photograph but hair, flowers and makeup were all invented from reference photographs.

I love the rich colours and textures you get from oil paint and I have a huge fascination with painting and sketching femme fatales.

The Brown Paper Bag Project

A portfolio building exercise turned feral. A while back I put out a call to friends and strangers alike to send me a photo of themselves and I would "Brown Paper Bag" them in any style style my mood desired. I got a subject, they got a free facebook profile picture. Win/Win really.

Intouch Magazine

An on-going gig, Intouch Magazine is a monthly publication produced by Corporate Traveller, a subsidiary of Flight Centre.
I love the challenge of bringing the sometimes very dry subject matter to life.

El Dia de los Muertos

This is a Self Portrait in oils painted with my face painted in Mexican Day of the Dead sugar skull imagery. While the structure of my face is from a reference photograph, the hair, flowers and facepaint are all invented from reference photographs.
