I have two main loves – Fashion and People!!! My 13 years retail and fashion industry experience vary from Fashion Design – to Fashion Buying – Fashion styling, and Fashion blogging! I had the wonderful opportunity of working for 3 retail giants in SA – Woolworths, Foschini, and Truworths, and then bidding Cape Town sunny shores goodbye for a 3 year - very fashionable styling stint at Next in the UK, - before deciding to head back to Cape Town - to educate aspiring Designers at the Cape Town College of Fashion Design!!
Why all the different avenues? Because life is an opportunity to learn, grow, and make a difference. Why not make impressions while at it? I grabbed every opportunity to study the different spheres of fashion and never regretted one moment of it. The industry has taught me to work hard, play hard, handle pressure, and be a team player who is able to also- use my own initiative. Starting my own small business assisted me to also manage pressure, have great business savvy, and of course – negotiation skills. My free time is often consumed by drifting away in my fashion styling blog, (I love fashion research and writing***) choreograph and teach dance, or work with the youth on the cape flats.
I own a small fashion business called Calista Clothing. I design prom and wedding gowns as well as dancewear for stage productions. I am also working on producing a clothing line in the near future.
