I have written for a living for over 20 years. During this time I have presented news features, corporate publicity materials, advertising features, travel writing, and regular columns on the Sunday Business Post, Evening Herald, and In Dublin magazine.
freelance subtitler of television programmes
From August 2008
August 2008 - Present
Throughout this time - including the period when I was undertaking the Deaf Studies course at TCD - I have been working as a freelance subtitler of television programmes for the Deaf in Ireland, working for a number of community TV stations.
• Liaising with programme makers and TV station commissioning editors to ensure that subtitle files are created and added to finished programmes for broadcast on Irish TV stations.
• Editing spoken language and putting it into a written form that conforms to the conventions of subtitling as developed by the BBC over the last three decades.

I continue to subtitle on a freelance basis. It's far from regular, but handy enough when it turns up.
Journalist and sub-editor
Writing articles and copywriting commercial features for all Independent titles (Irish Independent, Sunday Independent, Evening Herald). Writing news features. Sub-editing features pages on all the above titles.
I remain a dab hand at graphic design, and still turn a decent sentence.
In Dublin magazine
In this period I wrote for In Dublin magazine, Sunday Business Post, Irish Independent, and a variety of building industry trade magazines operating in the Dublin area. I also wrote all the copy for the Century Homes website and wrote and directed a radio advert for the same company.
