Research Supervisor

Marine Field Research

North West Island, Great Barrier Reef, Australia
Field research and data collection component of Masters (MSc) degree. Trip involved camping on a
remote tropical island for 5+ weeks with no provided research or camping facilities. In addition to pre-trip planning (including Great Barrier Reef Marine Park permit acquisition), I was responsible for organizing, coordinating and undertaking daily research outings to the surrounding island reef
environment involving extensive SCUBA diving. Research conducted involved aspects of coral
bleaching and aquarium harvesting of popular aquarium Anemonefishes. Meticulous aquarium
husbandry of anemonefishes was required with an average of 60+ anemonefishes cared for at any
one time throughout the trip. Invaluable skills acquired include extensive knowledge of field
aquarium husbandry, comprehensive marine research techniques, the operation and upkeep of marine vessels combined with the overriding goal of safe and successful planning and operation of
remote marine fieldwork. Seminar presented, literature review and thesis submitted to the James
Cook University School of Marine & Tropical Biology.

service/inquiries. Store maintains over 270 selling tanks of both fresh and marine fish, plants and corals, and has the largest stock list of fish and aquarium products in North Queensland. Exposure to the private aquarium industry including experience with marine and freshwater
fish/coral/plant identification, comprehensive husbandry techniques and care, water quality
testing, common disease prevention and treatment, fish health, feeding and nutrition, as well as general maintenance and aquaria design for both large and small systems.

Creator and Organizer

Solely responsible for creating and mailing a 2000+ person industry address database for a pre
show mail-out marketing campaign. Further developed Microsoft Office skills as well as online data
gathering and research techniques. Worked independently and efficiently within a strict timeline.
