System Operations Coordinator

Essential Energy is a NSW Distribution Network Service Provider (DNSP) corporation. Which operate two 24 x 7 Control Rooms to manage the high and low voltage distribution networks across regional NSW. All network switching, augmentation and emergency response is controlled from within the Control Rooms under strict procedural compliance. In addition to the general public, safety of employees and contractors working on the network is our highest priority.
My role is to manage the Control Room response for planned and fault operations across rural NSW, providing safe and effective clearance areas for access permits when required. In addition, includes responsibility to ensure all work carried out on the Networks and within Zone Substations, is policy and procedurally compliant. Involving receiving and processing; switching requests, fault switching, test certificates, work completion notices and commissioning certificates, to ensure new or repaired equipment is ready for service before energisation. In addition, I am responsible for the Human Resource management activities for 96 shift work employees across two sites.
Fault and Emergency Response Team Leader
May 2006 - February 2008
Within this role I worked with the Control Room environment, leading a team responsible for the coordination of fault and emergency response activities. It was my role to also ensure that fault response activities within depots across NSW was achieved, in a timely manner. In addition, ensuring restoration of supply was carried out with safety as the highest priority. Enhanced communication and negotiation skills were utilised to ensure customer outage information was transparent at all time. During this role, my supervisory and leadership skills developed in a professional context.
Fault and Emergency Response Officer
November 1997 - May 2006
Within this role I worked within the Control Room environment, accepting responsibility for the field staff coordination of fault and emergency response activities. During this period of time I worked within the team as a 24 x 7 shift worker. My primary responsibility was to ensure there was immediate emergency response communicated throughout the organisation when required, to eliminate safety risks to public and employees. This role was established to ensure fault and emergency risk aspects of the fault information were passed to field crews to ensure their safety upon arrival.

My role as an installation inspector provided me with the skills required to test installations in readiness for connection to the distribution network. These skills complimented my ability to
perform planned HV / LV network augmentation, including connection of new installations. In
addition, my skills and knowledge also enabled me to perform fault and emergency response
activities, to restore electricity supply across a 20,000 square km region 24 x 7. Working
independently to overcome adversity or difficult problems, where help is not readily available, is a life skill I maintain today.
In addition, I gained proficiency for work within Zone Substations to carry-out; new construction,
equipment maintenance and repair, protection installation, control wiring installation and commissioning. Ensuring control systems and equipment were connected correctly through
established test procedures, was critical to ovoid incident or damage to equipment.
Network Operations Coodinator
The Network Operations Coordinator is responsible for the effective leadership, management and functional operation of Essential Energy’s Network Operations Centre.
The role will require development, implementation and ongoing monitoring of processes and procedures relating to the operational control of work on Essential Energy’s sub-transmission and distribution networks.
The role will also require the management of all operational processes and procedures ensuring controls are implemented to cater for the safety of all employees, stakeholders and the general public.
Apprentice Electrical Fitter Mechanic

My professional development during my apprenticeship was extensive. The development program resulted in a 4 year exposure to the following workshops; transformer, zone substation construction and protection, communications, plant mechanic, welding, power station, metering and stores. External domestic, commercial and industrial wiring experience was gained by working with electrical contracting firms.
