All Things Waterproofing

Summary:

Keeping a building watertight is critical to the preservation of any structure. Water is the single most damaging element to a building.

In many cases, water problems plague a structure from initial construction. As time goes by, these problems become even more severe.

Water first damages a building cosmetically, then structurally. And by the time water damage is visible on the interior of building, it is likely that some irreversible damage has been caused to the exterior. Once irreversible damage to the building exterior has occurred, costly retrofit work is required. Which is why keeping the building watertight is so important.

The only way to prevent water from entering a structure is through the application and use of the correct materials by skilled personnel, followed by a scheduled maintenance program.

My skills sets are in the detection of moisture and its source to a structure and the provision of expertise in the application of sound methodology and propriety products to repair and prevent water damage.

LEAKY HOME SYNDROME

The ‘leaky home syndrome’ is a national disaster created by systemic failure through bad design, substandard materials, appalling construction practices and the ineptitude of regulatory bodies given the responsibility to safeguard those who became victims. The response to this debacle has spawned an industry driven by those who profiteer on home and building owners and a regulatory environment anchored in liability avoidance. For those unlucky enough to have fallen victim to these failures the path to remedial work or compensation often leads to serious financial loss or ruin. Some structures are beyond repair but there are many cases where significant moisture damage can be arrested and made good with the right materials and well planned and executed methodology.

WHAT YOU CAN DO

You can avoid consultants who charge outrageous amounts for long winded technical reports that inevitably recommend total re-clad.

Total re-clad removes any possible liability of the consultant recommending a methodology and materials for remediation that could fail.

You can avoid the stress of expensive protracted litigation which does not guarantee success.

You can avoid major remedial works by companies that profiteer on the backs of heavily burdened and stressed home-owners by expansive unnecessary works..

You can avoid over zealous territorial authorities that have raised the bar and created ‘leaky home listings’ against a property LIM with unnecessary regulatory requirements for remedial works designed to minimise litigation and the projected flood of claims.

Contact us, the 'Weathertight Group' to accurately assess your problem and fix it.

MARTIN TAKARANGI ~ Principal

A former Army Engineer and Building Inspector with the Wellington City Council, Martin has traveled at worked extensively offshore with assignments from Dubai to Sydney. He has vast experience in the proprietary plaster cladding systems and over 30 years in domestic and commercial construction. Martin brings practical construction knowledge and academic skills with a background in Law, social sciences and IT.

Martin specialises in the detection, assessment and the application of materials with a methodology that will arrest further damage and waterproof your building.
A licenced applicator with Waterproofing Systems and Ardex Ltd he has a sound knowledge required to design and plan the 'future proofing' of your structure or in the remedial works for damage caused by moisture ingress.

Waterproofing a structure is not complex and building owners caught systemic failure are unwittingly forced to follow horrifically expensive legal and remedial action, where alternative cost effective targeted works are dismissed by others.

However, legal precedence has now been achieved to traverse legal, insurance and compliance issues allowing staged works employing the 'targeted approach'. Martin’s vision for ‘Extreme Waterproofing’ is to simply find the leak and fix it.
