HR Generalist

Joburg Fresh Produce Market

June 2011 - November 2011

• Review all HR Policies and Procedures
• Review of all job descriptions within the company
• Job gradings for all positions within the company using the Remchannel
system
• Compilation of Company Climate Survey
• Consultation on new Training Centre Project
• Conducting interviews
• Resolution of general staff queries and disciplinary issues
• Created the 5 year Employment Equity plan

The position was of a temporary nature due to the fact that the HR department needed assistance with the duties as set out above. I reviewed the job descriptions for all of the positions in the company and headed the grading committee for the grading of the 283 positions in the company. I created a company specific climate survey questionnaire and also assisted with the initial discussions around the new training centre project. I also assisted in negotiations with the bargaining council and the union regarding requests for the payment of a housing allowance. The staff members maintained that other municipal entities paid their staff members housing allowances and that the market should follow suit. However through the grading process and the comparison to other municipal entity salaries it was clear that the workers were already earning more than their counterparts. Whilst the issue had not been fully finalized on my departure from the market, I had provided proof that the staff were not being underpaid.
