Duties: Working on the Rambiz heavy lift crane barge in the Adriatic sea, lifting jackets and placing them for Saipem and NEI. Piling, and placing of the top side once the jacket was in place. Loading and unloading of vesels with both equipment and men using a man basket and a Billy Pugh. Placing of the piling hammer, and all deck lifts associated with jacket placement.Love the work!

Duties: Piling on a construction barge Lowerstoft. Placing tubular and sheet piles to replace an existing harbour wall. Placing into position the piling gates, standing up the piles from a lay barge. Placing the hammer on the piles. Transferring of the men from the barge to the vessel and onto the gates by means of a man riding basket.

Duties: Working on the Browema jack up barge near Buckhaven Scotland. Working with DDC Drilling from Holland. When the drilling was finished I worked with the divers, placing them in the sea and on vessels by means of a man riding basket. (Mostly night shift)

Duties: Construction Barge, Marine Piling, Grimsby for British Ports. Each pile was 49 mts long and my job was to work off one barge with spud leg, and stand up the piles on a lay barge and position each tubular pile in the correct location before placing a piling hammer on the piles, to drive them into the sea bed, also everything else associated with lifting, including transferring equipment and men from and to the vessels/barge, as my crane was the only crane on the barge.

Duties: Construction of shafts and tunnels, Preston. Constructing tunnels to create surface water storage. Flood defense works for United Utilities. Lowering the miners and all the materials including the locos and rail lines down the shaft and servicing the top men also. It was a major civil engineering project.

I will not try to list all the jobs I have done for him as some jobs were only for a few weeks, sometimes only for a week. I have worked on many different machines over the years and I can say that there would not be much in the line of cranes that I could not operate competently.

Duties: Laying 70km of 18" steel oil pipe. We constructed a pipe from the oil refinery in Mazeikiai to the coast at Palanga. I was initially on an 80 tonne crawler but was then put onto the front end side boom, responsible for the pace the job progressed at. It was an interesting job and I enjoyed it thoroughly.

Duties: Operating and rigging crawler cranes nationally. I started operating cranes but eventually ended up travelling all over the country all week every week rigging and de-rigging the 80 crawler cranes which GWS had at that time, ranging from NCK to Linkbelt etc.

Duties: Diaphragm wall excavation using Liebherr crawler cranes, various sizes. (up to 150t)
I worked on the MRT (mass rapid transit) railway, digging foundations to a depth of 50m using an 8.5 tonne clamshell grab usually on a 90t Liebherr crawler crane but occasionally a bigger machine.


Hong Kong: Heavy Foundations Excavator (crane)
Duties: Diaphragm wall excavation using different crawler cranes, including Liebherr, NCK, Pinguelly and Hitachi, various sizes. I worked on the MTR (mass transit railway) digging the foundations for the supports which carry the rail track through the air above street level. Using an 8.5t clamshell grab we dug to a depth of 55mts until we were into the granite.

Duties: Diaphragm wall project at Hamburg airport. Trained for Crawler Crane work. I worked as a piling operative on the circular multistory car park at the airport. I got Liebherr experience and learned a lot on this project. It gave me a good opportunity to start the learning process about what is needed to become a good crane operator.

Duties: Building foundations for Canary Wharf station joint venturing with Bruckner Grundbau BV. And other Piling and Diaphragm wall work in and around London. I worked with the crawler cranes learning how to sling loads of all configurations safely and accurately, making sure that slings or chains were secure and not likely to slip whilst lifting the load. Faircloughs along with Bachy were the best piling companies in the country at that time and had all the key projects in London, and I worked on a number or projects with them, always working alongside the crawler crane Banking and slinging what ever needed to be moved along with rigging up the bentonite and the de-sanding pipes, building up the tremie pipes and cleaning the concrete off them after use.
