Work History

Classroom Teacher

Bayswater South Primary School

Acting Assistant Principal and Acting Principal for periods of up to 6 months at a time.
OH&S Representative.
Member of School Council for 17 years.
Subject co-ordinator and curriculum planner.
2012 - Retired from teaching at age 60.

In my role over forty-one years as a classroom teacher and member of the Principal class, I have developed a wide range of skills working with other teachers, educational professionals such as psychologists and welfare officers, parents of students, the wider community linked to school operations, such as local businesses, as well, of course, as the students themselves.
Planning of curriculum and its implementation has occupied a great deal of my time as a teacher. I have been involved in curriculum development at state level in the writing of the Frameworks Curriculum in the late 1980s. I have been involved with the development and writing of school policies, curriculum scope and sequence plans and budgets related to curriculum resources.
As a classroom teacher, I have communicated on a regular basis with parents through written reports and face to face interviews. As acting Principal and Assistant Principal I have needed to call on mediation skills when dealing with staff or parents who come to me with a problem. Likewise, it has been my job to inspire and motivate staff in educational issues, personal job promotion and welfare.
I consider myself to be fair in my dealings with others and a follower of due process. I am always prepared to follow established routines within an organization as I believe consistency is the recipe for success. I am punctual and I frequently work beyond required hours to get the job done. I have the capacity to prioritise tasks and to manage my time effectively so that all tasks are completed. If there is a time problem or I am not sure of a particular procedure, I will always seek assistance or advice.
