Work History

Action Roofing (Scotland)

Duties include working on various properties and sites throughout Scotland carrying out number of different tasks including:
-Repairing and re-roofing properties for both private and contractual clients.
-Stripping and dismantling old roofing.
-Erecting and dismantling scaffolds to a statutory high standard of health and safety
-Carrying out new insulation, applied by drilling and fixing polystyrene boards to properties before applying new render finishing to property.
-Assessing buildings for work to be carried out, measuring and estimating for scaffolding and materials

In my current job a good level of manual dexterity is a must. A considerable amount of manual labour
is required in my day to day work, be it unloading vehicles, lifting equipment and materials onto roofs,
stripping and dismantling off old roofs, or in erecting scaffold. It is a pre-requisite that all tasks are
conducted in a safe and secure manner, Health and Safety being a priority. As a supervisor, it is also
my responsibility to visit various ongoing contracts, to ensure site safety is observed at all times. This
entails ensuring scaffolds are safe and certified, doorways and entrances are clear, no created
hazards, and making sure all employees use the correct PPE at all times. I am required to liaise with both my own manager and with the site managers of projects in which we are involved, updating and
reporting work progress, materials requirement, and advising on solutions of any problems which
might occur. This requires a working knowledge of Microsoft Word, and Excel.

I am a recognized First Aider in the workplace and I am on hand to deal with anything from cuts on fingers to burns and eyewashes.

As of February 2014, I have took part in and passed a course in Pat Testing which enables me to Pat
Test all of my companies site electrical equipment. This is something which I proposed to my
company to enable us to test all of our equipment in-house, therefore saving the company...

Production Operator

Various Employment Agencies

For 3 years I worked for a number of different employment agencies in different factories across the country.
I worked for Major electronics companies such as Motorola, Compaq, IBM and Dell Computers on short term contracts or as and when required.
My main duties within these companies was building and repairing Laptops and Personal
Computers for businesses and customers. Hand-eye coordination and memory was a key skill as was a good eye for detail as part of the building and intricacy of fault finding process of these units.
Working as a part of a team was important to maintain a high level of consistency to keep up with projected targets. It was also just as important working as an individual, again keeping up with
projected targets and working within a safe environment.
Part of work requirement for Dell, involved working away from home for periods of time, at their factory in Limerick, Ireland. This involved building and testing new computers for a host of electrical retailers.

Apprentice Baker

John C Dalziel

I worked alongside time served bakers in my first job since leaving school. My duties were to assist in the baking of various products in a large family bakery. I had to learn on a day to day
basis, from Tradesmen in all the different operations, from making up recipes to the final
preparation of their products. A high level of hygiene was essential in this particular role as foodstuffs were being prepared.
Unfortunately the factory closed down before I could complete my apprenticeship as a qualified baker.
