Harvey - Contract Manager - Ashford, Kent, UK

Mark Harvey

Ashford, Kent, UK

Contract Manager

My most recent position was of Contracts Manager, the value of contracts varied between £45,000 - £95,000. I found the role challenging but also very rewarding when the contract had finished to the clients approval.

I have had a lot of fabrication experience from the nuclear sector through to architectural/structural fabrication. This I feel, has given me the knowledge needed to think on my feet to overcome problems within design and manufacture.

I have a very good knowledge of installation, this covers simple railings through to structural steel works. I can identify installation issues at the survey point rather than at the last minute.

Through my positions of supervisory levels, I am very aware of correct paper trails, health and safety and the importance of communication.

Workshop Supervisor

Gravatom Engineering Systems Ltd

From March 2007

I have worked at Gravatom twice, first time as a trainee and the second as a workshop forman.

We manufactured items mainly for the nuclear sector, one off projects or R&D machines. I was employed to run the mild steel works, this catered for heavy plate fabrications through to small pumping skids for clients such as Selwoods, Active Nuclear, CIS-BIO.

Latham's Yard, Hackney

Position: Welder / Site installer.

Folkstone Station

Position: Welder / Fabricator

I made this handrail along with another welder. It had to be fabricated on site due to the complexity of the ramp, it would have been almost impossible to make this in the workshop. We had the handrails finished within a week and then cut it into sections so that it could be powder coated. Once coated, the handrail was put together with expandable spigots.

Homebase Mezzanine's

I was involved within 25 Homebase store mezzanine staircases and handrail. We started off with powder coated handrails but at after the 20th store they changed the design to stainless steel top rails. These were welded on site as there was no safe way of transportation. I worked along side the welders due to the 2 week turn around required for each store. We were installing 4 stores a month.

Dreams Beds Showroom refurbishment

We were the main staircase and handrail manufactures for Dreams in the south and south east, most of the installation works were carried out on night shifts.

We worked off architects drawings for the finished floor heights but the workings for stairs etc were left to ourselves to carry out. we had the specification of materials to use. The average store staircase and 160 meters of handrail were manufactured and installed within 4 weeks of order.
