Dramatic Waterfall Rescue of Two injured walkers

This was a joint rescue of two injured walkers that had fallen 25 feet down into a waterfall plunge pool and landed onto rocks. That was in a deep Gorge 150 feet deep in the Campsie Hills of Scotland just outside Glasgow. That required the services of 5 other members of the Ambulance service and also the RAF Helecopter rescue from HMS Gannet, to remove them off the Hill and onto hospital. Both men were injured and lying both sides of the plunge pool ,one patient with Bi-lateral fratured Ankles and the other with a fratured skull and body trauma. we were in the water and involved in that rescue for 3 hours before we got them airlifted to casualty. for my part I was responsible for the removal out of the water on the vaccum mattress and also the administration of Morphine to the patient with fratured ankles. The second patient was intoxicated so with that as a contributary factor in relation to his head injury we decided to withhold pain relief in order to monitor his concious levels more accurately. This rescue resulted in the 6 members being put forward for the Health award and we won it, that made us all feel proud and worthwhile at being in the Ambulance service and having a positive impact on the rescue.
