BMD Constructions, Canberra
Engaged by BMD for my extensive knowledge in all aspects of sub-divisional works. Works included some 500 residential blocks combined under two separate contracts 6 separable portions running concurrent totalling $32m. The works in Canberra spanned some 18mths followed by relocation to Sydney office to assist the Bid Manager in a joint venture bid with John Holland on the Biloela bypass (Approx. $90m)
General Manager CDE Capital Pty Ltd
Performing all duties as required of General Manager, reporting directly to the Board of Directors
* Tender assessment for Company suitability, Tender Estimation, review and lodgement
* Oversee all operational aspects of the Company across 3 states on multiple sites.
* Ensure policies are maintained, implemented and review ongoing updates to maintain industry standards as a minimum acceptance
* Prepare 12 month cash flows for Board approval, forward planning for plant, personnel and infrastructure growth in a rapidly expanding market. Ensure diversity to enable success in a highly competitive industry.
* Initiate and implement sound strategies, which enabled the Companies smooth transition from plant, hire to Civil Contractor to Mining Contractor.
* Oversee accounts, OH & S, Policy and procurement, process control, job responsibilities, administration control, employment and advice on capital expenditure.
My time in this position saw CDE Capital's transition from an hourly hire plant company under a different name to becoming a major recognised Civil and Mining Contractor across 3 states. Dealing with Clients at corporate level, negotiating contracts and ensuring client relations were paramount throughout the process. Addressing contractual issues to ensure exposure of the Company was at all times, kept to a minimum. (This Company now operates as Rusca Bros. Pty Ltd) based in Darwin.
My leaving of the Company of my own accord is to pursue a Consultancy business whereby I became self employed to service numerous Clients within the Industry.
Projects Manager / Contracts Administrator
Central Desert Enterprise Pty Ltd
Oversee all contractual issues, tender estimating, and Project management in general of all sites. Implement procedure and policy to assist in company growth. This was a predecessor company of CDE Capital prior to its name change, so all duties were of a similar nature as above. During this time I also had the experience of the acquisition of a major parcel of land and consequently went through the entire process of re-zoning for development and eventually re-sale by Tender. This was a lengthy process over 2 years, in which time, a wealth of experienced was gained in this field.
During these 4 years after approx. 6 years with Adelaide Civil I offered Site Management services to numerous Companies. Two major projects, which ran concurrently, were STED (Septic Tank Effluent disposal) schemes. These were an initiative from the SA Government in an attempt to deal with waste water in regions where high water tables prevailed. The first Project was for Built Environs of Adelaide. The project involved servicing some 950 established houses in the Yankalilla / Normanville area. My roles as Site Manager were to co-ordinate and execute the Project with the implementation of 4 sub-contractors, each having been assigned a section of the town. The works entailed approx. 35km of gravity mains, rising mains, 2 Pump Stations, shoring boxes and de-watering. Treatment ponds were incorporated into the nearby Golf course.
The second Project was for Gambier Earthmovers of Mt Gambier, with the Project being at Port McDonnell the southern most tip of South Australia. Water tables were extreme on this Project as the township is on the shoreline. Extensive de-watering was necessary with closed shoring boxes required on all trenching. 9 Pump stations were required with the use of Telemetry. Dilapidation reports were performed on all properties as a result of the proximity to the line of influence from de-watering. Some 750 houses were served on this project.
Site Supervisor/Project Manager
My role as Site Supervisor was primarily in charge of Sub-Divisional projects for private developers such as Delfin, both north and south of Adelaide. The size of the projects was generally the development of 100 block parcels and during peak times would have 2-3 in progress to manage. Duties included management of personnel, plant movement and co-ordination, timely ordering of material and sub-contractors.
Self Employed Civil Contracting (Adelaide)
The opportunity arose through work colleagues to acquire a truck and bobcat for a 12 month term. This proved to be fruitful and also my introduction into the Civil Industry. Small projects were tendered and won during this period and a crew of 4-6 personnel were steadily employed. Plant hire also formed part of the business.
Leading Hand Rigger
Elizabeth River Bridge, Darwin
Duties include the responsibility of a 4 man crew in charge of all Rigging required on the Project. The Project comprised of a 500m bridge over a tidal river. A New Zealand system was utilised, namely an Auckland box, which enabled the works to be elevated above high tide. Pile caps were poured in the Auckland box, under the low water line, then stems and headstocks for beam launching. A Bailey bridge was also used to construct the main bridge were 3X70t beams were launched by a launching truss for the final pavement to sit on. The driving of four vertical 1200mm piles per headstock were also part of our job responsibility

Channel Island Bridge
This Project encompassed a 500m bridge to gain access to Channel Island, the home for Darwin new Power Station. Duties included Pile Driving, Launching of 69t beams, pipes work under main bridge once complete and crane work for all sub-contractors.
Labouring in general on construction sites and remote areas. Duties included all facets of labouring including concreting, welding, formworks, and steelwork, job set out, shed erection, painting, truck driving and roofing to name some. This was My Brothers Company and during the 5 years with him was able to gain invaluable experience in the building industry and carpentry in particular.

Duties include general dogman activities throughout site for all other trades. Driving of all piles, vertical, under-rakers and over-rakers for the construction of the slipway for the servicing of Naval Boats in dry dock.
