I Relieved as Shaft Engineer at Moab Khotsong Mine (11 Shaft). The depth of the shaft is 3106 m which has a single drop shaft as the main shaft, with an additional sub shaft. The periods during which I relieved in the mentioned position are as follows:
(27 June 2011 - 18 July 2011);
(16 August 2011 - 19 September 2011);
(5 December 2011 - 2 January 2012); and
(10 August 2012 - 3 September 2012).
During these periods I was appointed under reg. 220.127.116.11 to relieve the Engineer appointed in terms of reg. 18.104.22.168. of Minerals Act 50 of 1991. My responsibilities whilst relieving included the following:
To be in general charge of all machinery, which includes, design, installation and maintenance of such machinery.
The safe erection and proper maintenance of all buildings, structures and tanks in the area of responsibility of the Shaft Engineer.
Ensure that all safety appliances and guards are maintained in good condition.
Oversee work performed by contractors of which engineering is a component and ensure legal compliance of such work.
Management and control of plant, machinery, structures and associated equipment situated underground within a radius of 150 metres of the shaft boundary, including the maintenance thereof.
Management and control of plant, machinery, structures and associated equipment situated at the shaft head including winding plants, compressors, main ventilation fans, refrigeration and ice plants, mimic and fire detection control centres, including the maintenance thereof.
Management and control of conveyor systems, waste rock dump, waste silo, reef silo and materials handling equipment, including the maintenance thereof.
Surface electrical reticulation and reticulation through the shafts, including ESKOM consumer sub stations, underground medium voltage reticulation, all underground sub stations and those feeding the underground pump stations and winders.
